Christine Tien Wang (b. 1985 Washington D.C.) explores the emotional contradictions involving her artistic, social and economic privilege and her volunteer work with Prison Industrial Complex abolitionist groups in Los Angeles. In her paintings, Wang's dry wit and sardonic humor are revealed in short texts with specific fonts juxtaposed with contrasting materials and painting styles. In her collaborative performances, Wang’s satirical scripts and explicit sexual content leave audience members laughing, complicit and uncomfortable
Wang received her MFA from UCLA in 2013, her BFAfrom Cooper Union in 2008, and studied mural painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. Wang has completed residencies at Skowhegan, Studio LLC Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning, and Chashama North.
